It will be East Meets West next Saturday when designers from The Market NYC 268 Mulberry Street travel a few blocks to hang out with their West Village counterparts at The Market NYC's 490 Hudson Street location. With the 200th Anniversary festivities surrounding St. Patrick's Church, The Market NYC at Mulberry will be closed on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday June 7th. But that doesn't mean you won't be able to get any of the independent jewelry, accessories, and apparel. Many of the Mulberry Street designers will be set up and ready to sell along with Hudson Street regulars. "It gives designers and customers a chance to see the newly renovated space at 490 Hudson. It will be double the fun!" says Alex Pabon, the Manager of both markets.

The Market NYC's West Village location just reopened for the season three weeks ago complete with new lights, a fresh coat of paint, and a new attitude. Come early for the best selection.
After a long winter in hibernation, the West Village chapter of The Market NYC reopens tomorrow. The Hudson Street location first opened about a year ago in a school gymnasium (similar to The Market NYC's Mulberry Street location in NoLita) and became an instant hit with local residents and tourists who found themselves wandering off the Bleecker path. While the 490 Hudson Street Market lured some of The Market NYC's NoLita longtime designers, it also attracted a handful of new designers who saw their customer as more "West Village." Because of renovation, the Hudson Market relocated to a space adjacent to the gym, but now that the construction has finished (which includes new lights), the Hudson Street Market is prime ready.

Everyone is looking forward to the reopening including Barbara Wilkinson of Over the Moon Jewel (above photo), one of a handful of designers who made Hudson Street their regular Saturday gig. She sells a lot of jewelry online through Etsy but she always welcomes the opportunity to connect face to face with her customer. This is what she loves most about The West Village Market. She admits, like all new markets, word of mouth can sometimes take time to spread but for her she found, by year's end, she had regular customers coming in just to see her and her new offerings. Another Market NYC stalwart, Tesage by Yukiko Sato (see below) is another regular. She designs handmade bags with fun fabric. She has been at Mulberry Street from the beginning seven years ago poised to become a regular at Hudson Street. Look for Atlantis Jewelry, Rekha Designs, Drop Jewelry, and Michael Day Jewelry.

The West Village location of The Market NYC is located at 490 Hudson Street between Christopher and Grove Streets. They are open 12pm to 7pm.
